Attractions in the nearby area
Pszczyna – known as the pearl of Upper Silesia – is one of the most beautiful places in the southern Poland. Located among the greenery at the foot of the Beskid Mountains, it breaks away from a stereotypic black Silesian landscape, full of mining shafts and heaps.
An advantage of the city is an excellent location at railway line between Katowice and Bielsko as well as at the crossing of many provincial and national roads.
The most recognizable landmark of Pszczyna is the great Castle of Pszczyna Princes the history of which dates back to the beginnings of the 16th century. A Baroque palace survived the war almost intact – 80% of the original equipment was preserved coming from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries that were hidden in the palace cellars from the Red Army. As a result, everyone can see today what private chambers of the famous duchess Daisy looked like, visit richly equipped armory or attend a concert in magnificent interiors of the mirror chamber.
Around the castle, among ponds and backwaters, there is a huge Palace Park, full of groves, romantic corners, arched bridges and small architecture structures (e.g.an old tea shop on the island). As well as the trees that remember the times of Pszczyna Princes setting out to hunt to the neighbouring Hunting Castle in Promnice on the bank of Paprocany lake.
After visiting the Castle of Pszczyna Princes, it is worth visiting the market where, in the surrounding of charming, renovated tenement houses, you can rest on a duchess Daisy bench in the shadow of branched sycamores.
The enthusiasts of history can visit the neighbouring Silesian Press Museum, the only such object in Poland, where among old ledgers and dusty bookbinding machines they will discover the history of Silesia and its inhabitants anew. On the other hand, in the nearby Farm Village of Pszczyna everyone can see what the life of ordinary inhabitants of ducal properties looked like.
One of the greatest tourist attractions of the city is The Bison Pen located only a few hundred meters away from the old town where among proudly walking indian peafowls you can see the King of the Forest with your own eyes. Also in Jankowice near Pszczyna there is a 700 ha reserve where the bisons live at large – as well as a 10 ha farmstead and the vantage point. Apart from Białowieska Forest these are the only places in Poland where you can encounter these magnificent animals.
An unquestionable attraction of the region is also built on the Vistula river and providing water to a substantial part of Upper Silesia Water tank in Goczałkowice. The fans of active leisure in the summer season are invited to the 9-hole Golf course in the Palace Park or to Water Sports Centre in Łąka where you can try windsurfing under the eye of an instructor (or enjoy a water bike) and long, picturesque bicycle routes in our province e.g. the route of wooden architecture of Pszczyna village. Jogging or Nordic Walking enthusiasts can enjoy the appeals of Park Pszczyński.
Pszczyna also provides a number of entertainments and cultural events that are permanently present in the events calendar of the city attracting both the inhabitants as well as numerous visitors.
